Conversation: Joseph Stalin and Harry Truman
Stalin: “So, you would hold us under the threat of your new weapon? You know and I know that I cannot take what my country needs as long as you have control of the bomb.” Truman: “We have not denied Russia anything.” Stalin: “You would say that, but my country is in shambles, my people starving, while you gain from the same war.“ Truman: “Your country has more than enough land to feed your people; you just simply want more.” Stalin: “Expansion is the only way to help us. We can only succeed when all are Communist, united under a single banner. By trying to institute your ideals, you only delay it.” Truman: “If anything, democracy will strengthen and speed up under the threat of your oppression.” Stalin: “You hold me at the end of a weapon capable of razing my land and killing my people, and you would accuse me of oppression.” Truman: “We would not use the bomb on anyone without just reason.” Stalin: “That offers no assurance. Your sense of justice is twisted, and biased against the Soviets. You would rather see a country, a city, divided in half than have it be given to us.” Truman: “You have over twice the land we do, but yet you still desire more. This is not a question of our hatred, but of your own greed.” Stalin: “It is not the land we desire, it is the people. It is, and always has been, and always will be, our goal to unite the people of the earth into a Soviet Union.” Truman: “Maybe the Soviet Path is not the best for Russia.” Stalin: “It is the only path; I can only hope you come to realize this.” Stalin: “I will no longer associate myself with one that denies us the ability to see our goal made possible.” Truman: “Your greed and avarice nets you nothing. We will never assist one that sees conquest as noble.” Stalin: “Then, for once, we agree.” Truman: “Don’t expect any welcome from America anytime soon.” Speakers: Stalin: Carter Bennett Truman: David Kulish As an American President I think that we are not in the best state as a country. Stalin has taken over Western Europe and made them communist, I fear that Russia is trying to spread communism. I also fear that if they continue this we will have to intervene. I fear for the worst and if this continues we will not be able to continue being alis. After the Bolshevik takeover in Russia on October 24, 1917 I believe that communist will take over again. After Yalta and Potsdam my fears were confirmed that Stalin wants to spread communism. He believes that it will help the world, however it will only destroy it.
